There are many
effective strokes, but the most common today is a sweeping pendulum type
motion. The shoulders, arms, and hands work as a unit, but they are not
rigid. There will be some natural movement of the arms and hinging of the
hands, especially in the longer stroke.
The stroke is made
with both hands, neither dominating.
The back swing should
be low and slow. The forward swing smoothly accelerates the putter head
through the ball. Your follow through should be slightly longer than the
back swing.
The distance the ball
rolls is determined by the length of your back swing. However, on the very
longest putts there will be a smooth "hit" with the hands.
There are many
different strokes, whichever you use, I feel it is important to keep your
eyes still throughout the stroke.
